Assistant/Junior Summer Camp Counselor
Make a difference to elementary aged girls!
Job Description
We are looking for a few great high school students to work as Assistant/Junior Camp Counselors for our Summer Camps. What do Assistant Camp Counselors do? Assistants operate under the supervision of a Lead Counselor, but also have an important role to play. The most important out of all Camp Counselor duties is to ensure campers are safe at all times. You’ll help to oversee their activities and ensure they don’t get lost or hurt. The job duties of an Assistant Camp Counselor include supervising summer camp games and setting up equipment. Being reliable and able to build good relationships with children are two essential traits of an Assistant Camp Counselor. If you’re patient, energetic, and enjoy working with kids, we’d like to meet you. Email your resume, summer availability, and why you're interested in the job. We don't respond to incomplete applications, or to parents emailing for their teens.
Responsibilities
- Lead recreational and educational activities (such as crafting and outdoor recess time on a playground)
- Escort and oversee children under the supervision of a lead counselor
- Set up and clean up the space (ensuring everything is in the same condition or better than when you arrived)
- Resolve occasional disputes between children. You may refer the most difficult ones to a lead counselor, but you feel comfortable mediating mild conflicts.
- Make sure all safety rules are followed.
- Keep accurate incident logs.
Skills
- Proven experience as Counselor in Training program, Teacher Assistant, or Babysitter
- Familiarity with crafting
- Patient and reliable
- Organizational and communication skills
- A love for children
- Energetic and positive personality
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (strength and stamina to follow children's pace)
- First aid- and CPR-certified a plus
- High school students with childcare experience encouraged to apply
