Our club values

Support/Community

We're all in this together. When you're in the minority, it's wonderful to be reminded you're not alone. And no matter who you are, everything is better with friends!

Listening and Collaboration

Girls need to know their voices matter. We emphasize listening so others may talk, and talking when others are listening. We acknowledge contributions and consider suggestions whether we agree with them or not.

Grit/Resilience

Mistakes are detours that can lead you to wonderful places. We see failure as a necessary stepping stone. We teach problems as the road to success.

Growth Mindset

The brain is like a muscle; the more you use it, the stronger it gets. Research has shown that girls, especially bright girls, are particularly vulnerable to developing a Fixed Mindset, the belief that intelligence is innate and therefore cannot change. This mindset has been shown to limit creativity and risk taking, and cause self esteem problems. Growth Mindset sees obstacles as challenges to learn from. Trial and error and the iterative process, both inherent in Tinkering, can help girls understand that they CAN learn more, and mistakes don't equate failure.

Role Models

Find them. Be them. One of the most valuable factors in success is knowing it's possible. Seeing the people who have done it before you is not only inspiring, but mind opening. Whether its your mother, your sister, or a woman from history the textbooks have forgotten, there are role models out there for everyone.
