Blackout: Science of Light

Rising 1st-5th Grade

Light it up! Kids explore science and electricity through light. How does a bulb light up? What kinds of light are there? How do things glow? We get our hands on LEDs, batteries, and more to learn the basic concepts of electricity. Light and darkness are tested and explored. We use real, raw (totally safe) components.

Tinker Tales
Rising 1st-3rd Grade

Writing for Makers.  Engage students in writer's workshop. Communicating ideas effectively is incredibly important for innovators, but sometimes our kids’ creativity outpaces their ability to use a pencil. Amazing story ideas can get lost when kids get overwhelmed and never fully realize their vision. This program blends aspects of book writing, film, theater, graphic novels, and making to motivate young storytellers through the often daunting tasks of physical writing. Renegades learn to tell their story with hands-on work and peer discussions. Kids build small scale sets and characters, use iPads to record ideas and take pictures, and print out images of their creations to combine with their handwritten final story, creating a graphic novel they bind themselves. Kids engage deeply in story development work. This program uses our iPads.

Tinker Spy

Rising 1st-5th Grade

Practice writing, math and engineering as secret agents. Students are Junior Renegade Agents, learning tools of the Secret Agent trade. Investigation, making, and tinkering take the forefront as Junior Agents discover a variety of ways to send secret codes, make their own handy spy gadgets, and hone their observation skills. Children learn about the amazing women from history who have risked their lives discovering secrets, delivering enemy plans, and evading discovery and capture. Each Junior Agent receives official Renegade Spy certification when they complete their training! This program has no screen time.

Renegade Physics

Rising 1st-5th Grade

Student to delve into science. Physics, the science that studies matter and motion and how everything interacts with energy and forces. Renegades get a chance to dip their toes in, exploring the world of physics with fun, hands-on projects like wave machines and magnetism experiments. Your Renegade Teachers guide campers as they explore, experiment, create and complete projects on their own. This program has no screen time.

Fairy Tale Engineering

Rising 1st-5th Grade

Students solve engineering problems one story at a time! Perfect for children who love building and creative thinking. Children explore simple machines, engineering design, and problem solving. We work individually and in teams, create and build, and find solutions to fairy tale problems that don’t rely on a Prince or Fairy Godmother but on our campers themselves. Three Little Pigs learn about stability when building, and more!  Projects and stories are all new in Take Two of this popular camp. This program has no screen time.
