Renegade Summer Camp 2018

Girls only and Coed STEM camps with hands-on projects to rising 1st-6th graders. Join us for our 4th summer of fun! From the moment our club members arrive, they are surrounded by successful, smart, trailblazing role models who encourage them to pursue their love of science, exploration and building. We create a nurturing environment that focuses on building community with plenty of recess time for active bodies. Learn more about our day.

What Campers Are Saying

My 6 yo daughter did two weeks of summer camp with Renegade Tinkering and loved it. She loved all the art, building, and messiness. Small group sizes are nice - especially for introverted kids like mine. Camp leaders were enthusiastic and friendly. I enjoyed hearing about the women scientists and engineers they learned about every day. - VB, parent
My not-usually-very-open-minded kindergartner LOVES Renegade Tinkering Camp! He goes weekly after school and loves it so much we signed up for spring break and summer camp. He gets so excited to show me the things he makes after each class, like gear boxes and mini-zip lines, and loves showing me how they work. This camp really stretches his mind and engages him, and he loves using his mind and hands to create. He also really likes his teacher. Big fans here! - LC, parent

Renegade Physics

Rising 1st-5th Grade

Physics, the science that studies matter and motion and how everything interacts with energy and forces. Renegades get a chance to dip their toes in, exploring the world of physics with fun, hands-on projects like wave machines and magnetism experiments. Our Renegade Teachers guide campers as they explore, experiment, create and complete camp projects on their own. This camp has no screen time.

Arduino Robot Code Camp
Rising 2nd-6th Grade

Your own robot to bring home! The Renegade Robot Code Camp moves to the Arduino mBot, which runs off an Arduino board and is easier for kids to assemble and use than DIY models. With an all new robot, this camp is great for those who've taken our robot camp or are new to Renegades. Campers spend a few hours a day assembling and using their robots, and the rest of the day with screen-free hands-on projects, fun crafts, and high energy games that develop computational thinking and logic skills. Coding is about more than just syntax; it is a body of skills and a way of approaching problems. Requires strong reading skills.

Tinker Tales
Rising 1st-3rd Grade

Writing for Makers. Communicating ideas effectively is incredibly important for innovators, but sometimes our kids’ creativity outpaces their ability to use a pencil. Amazing story ideas can get lost when kids get overwhelmed and never fully realize their vision. This camp blends aspects of book writing, film, theater, graphic novels, and making to motivate young storytellers through the often daunting tasks of physical writing.

Renegades learn to tell their story with hands-on work and peer discussions. Kids build small scale sets and characters, use iPads to record ideas and take pictures, and print out images of their creations to combine with their handwritten final story, creating a graphic novel they bind themselves. Kids engage deeply in story development work. Our Renegade Teachers guide campers as they complete the book on their own.

Classic Camp STEM

Rising 1st-5th Grade

Our stamp on classic tinkering. Before iPads, before the words "maker" and "tinkering," kids engaged in building and making projects that they didn't know were chalk full of rich STEM skills. They just knew it was fun. These crafts have gotten creative juices flowing for decades, but were cast aside in favor of electronics. We're revisiting time-tested camp projects like engineering a kite out of paper and string, exploring the science of your own bubble mix and wands, and the math and logic skills from weaving a God's eye. Our projects provide tinkering, making and STEM enrichment the old fashioned way - through fun and hard work, kid motivated, kid created, deceptively educational. This camp has no screen time.

Tinker Your Future

Rising 1st-5th Grade

Career Day for Renegades. What might the future hold? We explore a myriad of professions with science, technology, engineering and math foundations. What kinds of scientists are there? What is a tech worker? Our Renegades explore fields they may not know existed, and others they may be curious about. Future biomedical engineers build a prosthetic limb. Budding chemists mix polymers to create resin shapes. We investigate how physics and engineering come together to create a zip line for a theme park. Our Renegade Teachers guide campers as they create and complete camp projects on their own. This camp has no screen time.
